Confirmation
What is confirmation? Confirmation is another sign that we want to follow God. You must be baptised before you can be confirmed. If you were baptised as a baby, confirmation is a chance to say for yourself that you are a Christian. It confirms the promises made by your parents when you were younger. Most churches run confirmation courses to make sure you understand what you're doing before you get confirmed. When you are confirmed you can become a member of the church, and can also join in Holy Communion. What happens in confirmation? A bishop (a head vicar) will put their hands on your head and pray that the Holy Spirit will help you to follow Jesus. The Holy Spirit is one aspect of God, giving us strength and power, and helping us. The service also includes communion - eating bread and drinking wine to remind us of the last meal Jesus ate before he died. You will be allowed to take part in this for the first time. In some churches they wear special clothes for confirmation, usually white. We don't do that in Trinity, but people usually look reasonably smart. What's the difference between baptism and confirmation? Anyone can be baptised - from new-born babies to old people. Only people old enough to think for themselves can be confirmed. Its like rungs on a ladder - baptism is the bottom rung and confirmation is the next one up. See also
