Prophecies About Jesus

Before Jesus was born holy men had predicted that he would come. In the Bible there are lots of books written before he was born, and sometimes these tell people what he would be like.

There are hundreds of prophecies about Jesus in the Bible. Some of them are written below, with an explanation of how Jesus met them. If you don't know what a prophecy is, read this first.

Jesus would be born in Bethlehem
Micah 5:2 "But you, Bethlehem, though you are too small to be among the army groups from Judah, from you will come one who will rule Israel"
Matthew 2:1 "Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea during the time when Herod was king."

His Mum would be a virgin
Isaiah 7:14 "The Lord himself will give you a sign: a virgin will be pregnant. She will have a son"
Matthew 1:18 "This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. His mother Mary was engaged to marry Joseph, but before they married, she learned she was pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit."

He will suffer
Isaiah 53:3 "He was hated and rejected by people. He had much pain and suffering."
Mark 15:19: "The soldiers beat Jesus on the head many times with a stick. They spat on him and made fun of him".

He will go into Jerusalem on a young donkey
Zechariah 9:9 "Your king is coming to you...He is gentle and riding on a donkey, on a young donkey".
Luke 19:35-36 "They brought the young donkey to Jesus, threw their coats on its back, and put Jesus on it. Jesus rode towards Jerusalem".

He will be silent during his trial
Isaiah 53:7 "He will be beaten down and punished, buy he won't say a word. He will be like a lamb led to be killed. He will be quiet"
Matthew 26:62-63 "Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus 'Aren't you going to answer?'...but Jesus said nothing."

He will suffer for others
Isaiah 53:4 "But he will take our suffering on him and feel our pain for us"
Matthew 8:16 "That evening people brought to Jesus many who had demons. Jesus spoke and the demons left them, and he healded all the sick".

He will be insulted by the people
Psalm 22:6-8 "People will make fun of me and hate me"
Matthew 27:39 "People walked by and insulted Jesus"

He came back to life after he died
Psalm 16:10 "You will not leave me in the grave. You will not let your holy one rot"
Luke 24:39 "Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have a living body as you see I have"

Its amazing that God told people in advance what Jesus would be like. It proves that Jesus was who he said he was - the Son of God!
