Jonathan Edwards

Jonathan Edwards is the worlds top triple jumper. He holds the world record for the triple jump, and has won a string of medals, including Gold at the last Olympics. (Some of his top medals are listed below). He has also won awards for the international athlete of the year, and BBC sports personality of the year.

Jonathan got into sport because his dad was a keen sportsman. He took up the triple jump at school.

Even though he is so successful he has not got big-headed. He says "I'm just Jonathan. I jump into a sand-pit for a living!"

Before the Sydney Olympics in 2000 he said he knew that people would judge him on how well he did. If he did badly people would think he was a bad athlete, but if he did well he could be a hero.

But then he said that to him this didn't matter because God loved him no matter how well he did. Because of this following Jesus was the most important thing in his life.

He went on to explain that even though we all do things wrong, which keeps us away from God, if we follow Jesus our sins can be forgiven and we can know God. This is Gods gift to us, and in return we serve him.

Reading the Bible is an important part of Jonathans life. It tells him what his attitudes and actions should be, and the best way to live his life. God speaks to him through the Bible.

Jonathan has discovered that even though he is the best in the world at his sport, nothing is more important than knowing God personally. Following Jesus makes him happier than winning Olympic Golds or setting world records.
