Albania

About the country

Albania used to be a communist country. During this time no-one was allowed out of the country. All the churches were closed and people were banned from being Christians. In 1990 this ended, and people were allowed to be Christians again. Today there are lots of Muslims in the country as well.
The country is one of the poorest in Europe, and has had riots because people have no money. Some villages don't have a single telephone for the people there. There is huge amounts of crime.
Things to pray for

Thank God that people can now be Christians without being punished for it.

That the country will get more money, and everyone will have enough to eat.

That there will be less crime in the country.

Austria

About the country

Austria used to be part of a big empire, and became a country by itself in 1918. It is right in the middle of Europe. Over the years lots of people have moved to Austria from poorer countries in Eastern Europe, so they have a lot of refugees.
The people voted for a political party (called the Freedom Party) who want to reduce the number of foreigners in the country.
Three-quarters of the people in Austria say they are Christians, but even more than that number have been involved with the occult. The country has very high suicide and abortion rates, and a lot of alcoholics.

Things to pray for

That the people thinking about suicide or drinking too much will turn to Jesus with their problems.

That the people thinking about abortions will consider all the options first.

That the church in Austria can help the refugees in the country.

That more people in Austria come to know Jesus as their friend.

Belgium

About the country

Belgium became a country in 1830. It has two parts. The north of the country speaks one language, the south speaks another. There is a lot of rivalry between them.
The European Union headquarters is in Belgium. NATO, the European and American defence group, also have headquarters in the country.

Things to pray for

The two parts of Belgium get on well together.

Thank God that churches are starting to work together in Belgium, and ask that this will carry on.

There is a shortage of church leaders, so pray that God will encourage the right people to be lead churches.

That the European Union and NATO will make good decisions.

Bosnia

About the country

Bosnia was part of Yugoslavia but split off in 1991. There were three types of people in the country and after this they all fought against each other. This killed lots of people and destroyed a lot of buildings. Even more people moved away to other countries.
Even before the wars Bosnia was very poor, and the war made it worse.

Things to pray for

That the different groups of people in Bosnia would forgive each other and get on well.

That the country would be able to mend the damage to buildings caused in the wars.

That the families of all the people who died in the war will feel better.

That all the people who had to leave Bosnia during the war will find new homes.

That more people in Bosnia will hear about Jesus.
