About the country

Spain once had a powerful world empire which made the country very rich. More recently they suffered a lot in a civil war in the 1930's and were led by some dictators.
Today Spain is quite a wealthy country today, but has lots of unemployment. A terrorist group called ETA wants part of Spain to be a seperate country, and they have carried out some bombings and shootings. Spain is a very religious country, and nearly all the people are Catholics.

Things to pray for

The government will be able to reduce the number of unemployed people.

That there will be no more terrorism in the country.

Lots of drugs come from South America to Europe through Spain, and the country has quite a big drugs problem. Pray that the Spanish police will be able to stop the drugs smugglers.

Also pray for the drug addicts, that they will get well, and ask God to help the people who look after them.

Thank God that so many people in Spain are Christians.

Sweden has not taken part in any war for nearly 200 years. People in Sweden are quite well off.

Switzerland is known for being independent, and it was not involved in the first or second world wars. The United Nations, an organisation which helps countries work together peacefully, has its headquarters in Switzerland. Most countries of the world are part of the United Nations.

Thank God for the work of the United Nations. Pray that the countries in it will be able to work together well.

About the country

Yugoslavia was formed in 1918. It was a group of many different types of people. In 1991 Slovenia, Croatia and Macedonia all left, and in 1992 Bosnia left Yugoslavia. Now only Serbia and Montenegro are part of the country.
Yugoslavia tried to get Serbians in the other countries to join them, and there were some wars. In 1999 they tried to throw all the people who weren't Serbian out of Kosovo, one part of the country, and armies from other countries had to stop them. The people in Kosovo now want to leave Yugoslavia.
The country is now very poor because of all the wars.

Things to pray for

Pray that there will be peace in the area, and that the countries will stop invading each other.

Pray that the different groups of people left in Yugoslavia will get on with each other.

Pray for all the innocent people who have been hurt, or seen family members killed, or had their houses destroyed in the wars.

Pray that the country will be able to rebuild itself soon.
